Coach Scot Baseball

Best for kids 7 - 13 years old, Coach Scot Baseball is a clinic-style format where each week begins with fundamental instruction and drills, designed to improve all abilities for all skill levels.  We work on fielding, catching, throwing, hitting, and specializations such as first base, pitcher and catcher.  Following 'fundies', we play our epic Winter Wiffle Ball game with teams divided up by the coaches so that teams are fair and different each week.

Winter Ball is designed so that each player improves their skills physically, as well as their knowledge of the game and its rules.  And more than anything, Winter Ball is F-U-N!  All you need is your glove, (and we'll loan you one if you don't have one). It is all volunteer run and is 100% FREE!

DATES AND TIMES ARE TENTATIVE UNTIL REGISTRATION CLOSES. In the past, our indoor season runs on Sundays in the winter, from around Jan. 5 through March 23.  There will be three to four 90-minute sessions, the first beginning at around 12p and the last ending around 6p. Sessions will be split by age and ability and final session times depend on the number of registrations we receive.  All sessions are in the gym at PS217 on Roosevelt Island.

As in past seasons, in lieu of payment, registered kids are required to participate in at least one Community Service project per season, which we call Serve All and Play Ball.  This can be one of our organized events, or one in your own neighborhood.  Events on Roosevelt Island will be coordinated with a community-based organization with a few different options for days and times throughout the season.

Muhammed Ali:

"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."

Walt Whitman:

I see great things in baseball.  It's our game - the American game.  It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism.  Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set.  Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us.
